"The Case Against Aloofness"
THE CASE AGAINST ALOOFNESS
The first thing God declared as being "not good" was Adam's being without a companion. (Gen. 2:18) "It was not good for him to be alone." God solved the problem by giving him a companion that suited his needs.
"Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up." (Eccl. 4:9,10)
Observation: Rather than spending our time looking for reasons why we should not be a friend to someone, doesn't it make more sense to be looking for common ground where we can stand together and share our mutual joys and sorrows? This is not to compromise with error, but merely to look for areas of agreement so we can more quickly become one with others based upon a mutual respect for truth and righteousness.
It appears people in our day are becoming more and more distant and hostile toward each other rather than looking for ways whereby we can become closer.
"He drew a circle that shut me out, Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout. But love and I had the wit to win; we drew a circle that took him in."
