Doe Quite Content
"In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." - Ps. 4:8
The deer we observe around our home have learned that they are safe on our property. In fact, I have often found them sleeping during the daylight hours. This doe in particular seemed quite content as she soaked up the late afternoon sunshine. I envied her ability to rest without fear, to block out distractions and just enjoy the warmth of the sun. For myself, however, sleep often eludes me and the cares of this world seem to just overwhelm me. How can anyone find rest when pain and sorrow surround us and evil seems to triumph over good? How can peace be found in the midst of storms? The answer I believe lies not in the things we see every day, but in the things we cannot see, in the things we have been promised and in the One who is walking with us in the storms. This little doe knew where peace and safety could be found. And she had enough sense to lie in the warmth of the sun and rest there, It's a lesson we all need. - John
