“Yours, O Lord, is the greatne ss and the power and
the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that
is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the
kingdom, O Lord, and you are e xalted as head above all.”
-II Chron. 4:11
Majesty is easier seen than described and what evokes that sense of majesty is not the same for all people. For myself, the sight of a mature buck always brings that word to mind. I saw this particular buck as it worked its way across a field and eventually disappeared in the forest. There was a time in my life when I would have wanted to kill this buck and display his head on a wall in my home. Those kind of thoughts have left me long ago. Majesty is to be admired and respected, not used to stroke our own egos. Photography has allowed me to follow wild creatures like this throughout all of the seasons and to get to know them and their behavior at every stage of their lives. Viewing God's handiwork like this produces a sense of awe in all that He has made and a greater sense of awe at His creative power. All creation speaks of the majesty and power and glory of its Creator. It is to our shame that we tend to gravitate to the works of our own hands rather than His. It is so sad that when we look for something to worship, we end up looking in the mirror. Scripture calls this as an exchanging of the truth of God for a lie. But there is something very freeing in admitting who we are and finding our solace in gazing at His glory rather than our own. He is worthy. We are not. He is to be exalted. We are to bow before Him. Having reverence for someone greater than ourselves is a hard lesson for such prideful creatures as ourselves to learn, so God surrounds us with reminders of His majesty and power in the things he has made. This buck was a good reminder for me. - John
